HOMECENTER FOR SAFE SOLUTIONS
The Home Center for Safe Solutions, a unit in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences,
is committed to supporting science-based initiatives that will reduce drug trafficking,
money laundering, firearms trafficking, drug-related violence and gang activity with a specific
focus on Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia and West Virginia. CSS provides research
and criminal intelligence products to its stakeholders that enables them to make informed
decisions and develop sound policies.
CSS is funded entirely through external grants and, as such, is uniquely positioned to
assist public safety and community organizations with opportunities to obtain grants and
other external funding that they may not otherwise have resources to pursue.
To expand relationships with government and nongovernment organizations, communities,
private clients, and institutions of higher learning nationwide to provide the highest quality
technical assistance and training to support public safety.
To partner with clients to solve their most important and complex problems. CSS will
do this by providing its clients with the highest quality managerial and operational support,
technical assistance, and training.
Improve efforts to combat drug trafficking and drug abuse
Develop innovative approaches to reduce violent crime
Conduct research on drug and money laundering organizations and gangs
Provide strategic, operational and tactical criminal intelligence to our clients
Offer internships and paid positions to college students
Develop new and expand upon existing collaborative relationships with other
departments and colleges within the University
Seek additional grants and other external funding in support of its goals
